Minimalist Typography Trends for 2024: Sans-Serif Edition

Minimalist typography trends

The minimalist typography trend, like other minimalist designs, let go of unnecessary ornamentation, sometimes including color palette, leaving only the font on its own. Instead, designers use spacings between letters, playing with size difference, and mixing upper- and lower-case to create the desired look.

A Rising Trend

The minimalist trend pursues simplicity in clean lines and geometric shapes. At a glance, the resulting design may look simple but never simplistic. Every aspect of the design has been calculated so that the audience can clearly and effectively read the logo and recognize the brand or company.

Minimalist design tends to be more aesthetically appealing due to how simple they look. In the context of typography-type logos, minimalism often translates to using a seemingly plain and basic font, usually a sans-serif.

However, since a minimalistic approach throws away elements that make one logo different from the other, brand logos are starting to look too similar. For now, it doesn’t seem like the trend is going to shift, especially when more major brands adopt a minimalist approach in their rebranding.

Famous Brands with Minimalist Style Logos

Ever since the trend became mainstream in the late 2010s, major brands around the world have slowly adapted by changing their logo to a simpler design. Some of these brands only made their iconic logo simpler while some others did a complete overhaul of their logo.

Jaguar

Since November 2024, the automaker company did a complete overhaul of their logo. Gone is the leaping titular animal, leaving only the word ‘jaguar’ written in a custom font. This rebranding marks the company’s shift to focus on producing fully electric vehicles.

Louis Vuitton

The luxury fashion brand had a humble beginning as a luggage and travel gear company. The current logo consisting of the intertwined letters “L” and “V” was introduced more than a century ago in the late 1800s.

Rolling Stone

Not to be confused with British rock band The Rolling Stones, the American monthly magazine Rolling Stone has a logo that’s quite simple: a typography of the magazine’s name. The current logo, released in 2018, shifted to a sleeker and flatter look without the inline and 3D effect of the 1981 logo.

5 Sans-Serif Fonts for Your Project

Aprils Sans – Handdrawn Font

If you are looking for a basic-looking font with a little bit more personality, this one is for you. The letters appear as if they were hand-drawn, which will make your logo feel more personal and relatable to the audience.

Germany – Luxury Font Duo

This font came with two distinct styles: script and sans-serif. If you are looking for a minimalist look, you can use the sans-serif style. If you want your brand to appear more elegant, use the script style.

Mattire

A mix between serif and sans-serif, this font is suitable for brands who want to appear bold and brave. Play with contrasts to maximize this font’s potential.

Etnier

A sans-serif font with a sturdy and squared appearance, this font is perfect for brands that value strength and resilience.

George – Classic Typeface

A classic sans-serif font with a vintage flair, perfect for brands that values the past but aren’t afraid to embrace the present and walk towards the future.
