That day felt completely ordinary, until my phone rang and a familiar name appeared on the screen: Raim Laode.
His voice was calm, warm, and sincere. He wasn’t calling to promote anything, nor to discuss something big or formal. He called for one simple reason that meant a lot to me: to ask for permission.
Permission to use a font for the title of a song, and later, the title of a film. The title was just one word: Komang.
Raim shared that Komang was never just a love song. It was born from personal stories, prayers, longing, and a deeply human journey. That’s why every detail mattered to him, including how the word Komang would visually appear.
His choice fell on the Bright font from Dharmas Foundry. According to him, it felt warm, honest, and human, exactly the emotions he wanted people to feel when they heard the song or watched the film.
As time passed, the song Komang reached more and more people. It was sung, shared, and became the soundtrack to many personal love stories. Not long after, the story grew into something bigger, a feature film.
The film Komang tells the story of a young man who falls in love with a woman from Bali. Their relationship isn’t simple. Dreams, differences in faith, and family expectations slowly put their love to the test. It’s a quiet story, but one that feels very close to real life.
What started as a song, and a single phone call, eventually led to something remarkable. Komang officially became the No. 1 trending film on Netflix Indonesia.
People watched it, talked about it, and connected with it emotionally. Some smiled, some cried, and many found pieces of their own lives reflected in the story.
The visual identity of Komang feels cohesive and intentional. Warm color tones, natural settings, gentle expressions, and of course the title Komang written in the Bright font, all of these elements support the story being told.
At this point, the font is no longer just typography. It becomes part of the narrative itself.
I often think back to how it all began: a short phone call and a simple request for permission. From there, Komang grew into a work that touched millions of people.
Perhaps that’s the most meaningful lesson from this journey, that great works are often born from sincerity, respect, and genuine intention.
Today, seeing Komang at the top of Netflix Indonesia’s trending list feels like witnessing a long journey that started small, but was carried forward with heart.
